Contact Creditors and Financial Institutions
If your fraud occurred at a business, contact that establishment immediately. Then follow up with your financial institutions, creditors and other service providers to update payment and account information.
Contact a Credit Bureau
By contacting Experian, TransUnion or Equifax, you can place a fraud alert on the account and they will contact the other two institutions.

- TransUnion – (800) 680-7289
- Equifax – (800) 525-6285
Report It
Contact the Social Security Fraud Hotline at (800) 680-7289, local law enforcement agencies and the Federal Trade Commission at (877) IDTHEFT to report the incident.
Monitor and Correct
It is important to continue to monitor your credit report and accounts after identity theft. In addition to monitoring, now is the time to start correcting any debts that occurred because of the fraud and have your identification cards reissued.
